Fri-Yay! Fri-nally it's Cheesecake Day!

Fri-Yay! 😃

You need to celebrate...1 cuz it’s Friday! 2 cuz it's National Cheesecake Day!

Did you know? The history of cheesecake goes back centuries! The writer Athenaeus is credited for writing the first Greek cheesecake recipe way back in 230 A.D. You may think it originated in America, since “New York Cheesecake” is a popular type of cheesecake.

By this time, the Greeks had been serving cheesecake for over 2,000 years but this is the oldest known surviving Greek recipe!

“The ancient Greeks, by the 5th century BC, made the earliest known rudimentary cheesecakes (plakous meaning “flat mass”), consisting of patties of fresh cheese pounded smooth with flour and honey and cooked on an earthenware griddle. In late medieval Europe, cheesecake re-emerged in tart form with a pastry base.

The 1st English cookbook, The Forme of Cury (c. 1390), consisting of a collection of medieval English recipes compiled by the cooks of King Richard II, included 2 cheese tarts: “Sambocade,” containing curd cheese, egg whites, rosewater, and elder flowers, and “Tart de Bry” made with ruayn (a semi-soft autumn cows’ cheese), egg yolks, and ground ginger.

For the ensuing 5 centuries, almost every subsequent English cookbook contained at least 1 cheesecake recipe.” - Excerpt - “The History of Cheesecake” #linkinbio

Styles of Cheesecakes:

New York-style cheesecake

Pennsylvania Dutch-style cheesecake

Philadelphia-style

Farmer cheese cheesecake

Country-style cheesecake

Lactose-free cheesecake

Cheesecake Kludys

Chicago Style cheesecake

Savory cheesecake

My late Mom used to bake the German variety of cheesecake with real quark. SO yummy! 😋 I miss that delicious dessert and I miss her even more! 😔 🙏 She’s probably baking one right now for her and Dad both in heaven. 💕

Ideas and Tips for Your Next Summer Boutique Event!

☀️ 😎

Setting the scene for your party: The outdoor season is here! Yeah!  The sun and warm air are luring us outside and you have the perfect reason to host a boutique garden or patio party! ☀️ 🎉

A garden party should ideally be held in a beautiful setting like your garden or backyard, a scenic park or community garden. A tranquil setting surrounded by flowers, flowering shrubs and trees and plants with flowers and/or even vegetables. Ensure you choose a spot with shade so you and your guests can enjoy comfortably without the heat. Look for trees that spread a lot of shade, an arbor that is covered with grapevines and tall hedges or canopies and tents. 🌲 🌳

Theme: Choose a reason and a theme for your party. Your ideas and planning will be easier. You can align it with the menu, venue and even the dress code. It can be afternoon tea, bbq with friends, girl’s night out at the movies, casual backyard bbq, birthday or your important milestone. How about an “unquarantine” party for some fun?! 😂

Invitations: Send hand-written or typed invitations for an extra special touch. Send them via regular mail. 📫 A tactile invitation: a real hold-in-your-hands envelope ✉️ has a much higher opening rate than an email invitation. Whether you choose, snail mail or email, ensure you send your invitations well in advance, so your guests receive them and reply in a timely manner. This helps you with your planning. Ensure your invitations are informative; tell your guests and friends, the occasion, dress code, (if applicable) and if they need to bring anything or not.

Decorations: Your garden party will be beautiful as is in a nature setting. If you choose to add to your setting, you can order decorations for rent, buy, or borrow, and/or craft your own. What if you host a crafting party with your friends?! That will be lots of fun! Whether you choose, simple or fancy, it will look lovely and unique. Take some clear glasses or vases and fill them with flowers and/or sprigs of fresh herbs. These will delight your guests' visual and olfactory senses. You can visit some of our local thrift stores and you will find a wide variety of well-priced, unique items to decorate. For flowers, you can choose one kind of flower or several different varieties. Think of sweet peas, peonies, petunias, roses, ranunculus, geraniums, heather, sunflowers, or fuchsias. Add hanging baskets for varying heights of your floral decor. 💐 🪴

You can use outdoor lighting if your event goes into the evening. This adds a festive touch to your party and provides light to the patio, walkways, and yard. 💡

When adding linens, choose a colour or two that combine well with the outdoor theme. Think colours of blue, green, red, and yellow, like the sky, the trees, the flowers, and the sun. Add some appeal by placing your decorations on varying heights of small tables, tiered stands, wooden crates, or hay bales. Hang some embellishments in the greenery nearby to dazzle the eyes as they sway in the breeze. 👀 💨

Set up and use comfy chairs, and an assortment of pillows, which can go with your theme. Ensure there are enough, even more than enough seating, before your party begins so your guests and friends will feel welcome and comfortable. 🪑

Planning a menu:  Food and catering is a very important consideration for your event. What’s a party without food?!! Your menu should be planned at the very least, one week before your event so you have time to shop and prepare for what you will need. When you choose a more formal event, with more guests and a larger outdoor gathering, the caterer and planner will require a minimum of one month in advance. Always keep your guests in mind. Be sure you ask your friends about allergies and/or dietary concerns, so you can advise your caterer and planner. 🥘 🍗

Prepare! Prepare your outdoor living area well before your guests arrive so that it is ready, and you can relax and focus on welcoming them. Clean, clean, clean!! Declutter your space where you envision your party will be. Think of past events you’ve attended where things were out of place, untidy or caused you pesky grievances, so you can avoid these from happening to guests at your party. You want to make a positive impression and a welcoming, memorable experience and ambiance. Make sure the lawn is cut, weeds are pulled, low-hanging limbs are trimmed and repair any fences or gates that may need some TLC. Clear eaves, sweep away any cobwebs and hide the garbage cans. Remove garden hoses and supplies, toys, pet beds and anything else that is unsightly, and/or possibly hazardous, not in line with the atmosphere you are aiming to present. 😊
You also want to ensure your guests don’t go home with unpleasant memories because of bug bites or sunburn. Nothing will make your guests more “buggy” and crabby than having to swipe and swat away at annoying, buzzing and stinging insects. Bug off bugs!!  Buy and/or make your own repellant and pest control. If you choose natural, use bay leaves, cloves, basil, sage, and peppermint, by scattering them and plant or place potted marigolds around. Have a small, discreetly placed, away from food; supply of bug spray, hand sanitizer, individual wipes, SPF lotion or spray, band aids, kleenex, Polysporin and Advil just in case. ⛑
Plan, plan, plan! 🗓 ✍️ 💻

Have a plan! Yes, it does require effort and work. 😪 It is worth it when you have a successful and fun gathering with your special people. 😃 Set a budget. 💵 Discuss plans, ideas, and details with your planner. Always expect the unexpected and be prepared. Have a backup plan. The better and more prepared you are, the better you will prevent unfortunate occurrences, and the more you will relax, enjoy, and celebrate. 🎉
The happy feelings and wonderful sensations you will enjoy throughout your event and the memories you will create are priceless! 😃

The most important are:

PLAN!
CLEAN!
HAVE FUN!
CELEBRATE!
RELAX!

How’s your Monday? What are you working on or learning today? Motivated to get s!$t done?!

Today’s been an intense studying, learning and testing day over here! Yikes! Time for a rest outside in the garden soon! Gardening is not actually rest; it’s work too, though it’s a great diversion from the tests and the computer. Bonus: bountiful reaping from what’s been sowed in the vegetable and flower gardens. Fresh and homegrown! 💐 🥒 🍅 🥬

You reap what you sow; in your garden and in your mind! 🪴 🧠

Sowing now so I can go to the beach later!! 🏖 🏝

Focus, Fitness and Feelings

It’s Fri-YAY! You are running towards the weekend with anticipation and joy! 😃

Do you love running? Do you love walking? Both? Neither?  👍 👎

Walking is “my first love” so to speak. When I started running more than 20 years ago, I “fell in love” with the exhilaration of it all; the starting line, the challenges along the road or trail, the “runners high”, the getting close to the finish line, (not the “hitting the wall” part though 😳 ) and the “good” tired and feeling of accomplishment after the runs. The food and camaraderie after was an absolute highlight. Sharing stories, experiences and food with friends is the best!! 🤩

After completing my 2nd half-marathon, I had to give up running for a long time, to recover from a serious injury 🤕 . No words to describe the disappointment; was majorly bummed. It was a slow, long recovery. 🐢

I did the hard work; followed the arduous road to recovery with determination and diligence, even though there was frustration and pain at times. 😣

You gotta do what you gotta do. It’s your road, and yours alone! Others may walk/run it with you, but no one can walk/run it for you. The body achieves what the mind believes! Running reminds you that even in your weakest moments, you are strong. 💪

When you’re running a business, challenges like these are part of the journey; the race. How many times have you felt like not moving forward, stepping out of the lane and sitting this out? 5X, 100X, 1000X? 😖

It doesn't matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop! Focus on growth, step by step, mile by mile, rather than perfection! No such thing.

What are you focusing on today? What goals are you walking or running towards?

Share your walking/running experiences below. Do it! 📱 Others can learn from your journey.

Hydrangeas and Happiness for your Wednesday!

Happy Humpday! 😃

You and your friends (and your eyeballs) will “pop” at the beauty of these blooms! 🤩

Did you know? 🙋‍♀️ Hydrangeas represent gratitude, grace, heartfelt emotion, joy, and beauty. They are widely popular ornamental plants, well known and loved for their grand flowerheads. You probably know this already. 😊 They are the epitome of happiness and summer! You want to feel and share these fabulous feelings with your friends!

A pretty decoration. Easy for you or your event planner to arrange them and set your table. Whether you choose them at your next outdoor garden party, picnic in the park or afternoon tea, you will have a beautiful, visually-appealing centrepiece! 👀 💐

So easy; you cut some fresh flowers, place the stems in a vase, and you instantly capture the feelings of summer, while having a beautiful view! 😍

Here are 4 tips to make your cut hydrangeas last longer and prevent them from wilting:

  1. Cut off all the leaves near the bottom of the stems. The leaves drain moisture from the flower head and cloud the water in your vase.  Leave some leaves (is that good-sounding English grammar? 😁) close to the blossoms.

  1. Use a sharp knife 🔪 and cut your stems on an angle. This way the bloom receives the most water.  Ensure your knife is sharp as the stems are tough.  💪

  1. Buy some alum at your favourite grocery store. (check the spice aisle).  When you cut your stems, give them a brief dip into the alum, then quickly place them in room-temperature to cool water. Flowers can fade or droop quickly in hot weather. 🥵

  1. You want your arrangement to last a long time, so be sure you cut the ends (which opens up the woody stem to take in fresh moisture) and change the water in your vase every other day. 😊

You can use any vase or container, depending on your personal preference and style. You can use real vases, old rustic-type jars, mason jars, ornamental glasses, wine goblets and for a different “look” use a teapot 🫖 (or 2) for a nice presentation.

What are your favourite flowers for a centrepiece or decoration?

Which flowers will you choose for your next summer outdoor event?

It’s almost August! 😱 (don’t even wanna think it right?) Summer will be over soon! 🔜 Don’t let the sun go down on you! 😂 😝 ☀️ a spin on Elton John’s famous song - “Don’t let the sun go down on me.” (another favourite rock star) 🎹 ❤️

Let’s plan now!  🏃‍♀️ ⏰ 🗓

It is never too late to pursue your dreams! Believe!

Believe in your dreams!

Sharing a few compelling reasons to encourage you! 😊

When pursuing your dreams, desires, and goals, your age or other’s opinions are

irrelevant. Period!

Have you listened to others about who you should be or what you should do? You’ve

probably experienced this haven't you? I sure did. Sheesh, why waste time or allow

“free rent” in your head for other people’s opinions?  “Been there, done that.” It can

sometimes take months or years to realize, it’s your decision, who you are, who you

aspire to be and what you can do. No

more listening to others' ideas and voices. Those days are over! Your dreams and

your voice matters.

You inherently know what your innate gifts, dreams and passions are! With your

imagination, inspiration, vision, focus and patience, anything is possible. Believe in

yourself. You find purpose with dreams. You work diligently and chase them. You

have a reason to wake up and live life. When you are working with your goals in

mind, you want to “jump out of bed” every day. Don’t you? 🛌 🥲

You meet other dream seekers and doers along the way and attract people who

share your values. They encourage you and lift you up! When you decide to “go for it”

and pursue your dreams, you also inspire others. 😃

Anything is possible! 🙌 Believe in yourself! 💪

Work hard, and have faith, you can do anything! 🙏

As my most favourite rock star sings…” Keep the Faith!” (Side

note…he’s the most gorgeous 🤩 🤤 and one of many of my favourite rock stars) You already know

when you follow me, I am a music lover!! 🎼 🎸 Scroll down and see for yourself. 😊

P.S.  DM 📱 💻 your dreams for your teaboxes! 💝

Summer! A perfect time for picnics and garden parties! ☀️ 😎 🎉

It’s more than eating a meal, it's a pleasurable state of mind. 😌

What better outdoor pleasure to enjoy this beautiful weather with, than enjoying time with your friends on your patio or at the park? Everyone loves summer gatherings with friends, food, and fun! Don’t they? 😉

Be sure you add flowers to your event. The radiance and shapes of blooms and petals add instant pops of colour and pizzazz to your surroundings! 🌸 🌺 🌼 💐

Did you know? There are many scientific studies of flowers and your health. Flowers have powerful effects on your well-being. They brighten up your environment, boost your brain cells and memory and are good for your mental health. There you have it; excellent benefits and good reasons for you to DM your friends for outdoor fun! 😃

A summer party or... ____________ (name of your event goes in the space) is about enjoying good times with your peeps while making sweet memories!

To capture all the sweet memories you will be making, bring your camera (or hire a photographer) to capture and share the special moments!

The only thing missing in my picnic basket is you. 😉 "We must ketchup and relish these summer moments." 😆

What are you waiting for? ⏰ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ Carpe diem while the summer and glorious sunshine are here! ☀️ 🌞
