11/30/2020 0 Comments Christmas Mason Jar CenterpiecesHappy Monday friends! 😊
New day. New week. 🗓 Last day of November 2020. Only 24 days and 13 hours until Christmas!! 😯 Time to get my Christmas decorations and crafts set up and organized for a warm, cozy and charming home setting. I see so many beautiful Christmas decorations and pretty lights on display. 🌲I don’t have my Christmas tree or decorations up yet. I will start today after my appointments and workday. Ongoing renovations over here has kept me hopping busy and living in an ever-changing, noisy and crowded landscape on the homefront. I thrive on working in an organized, clean and clutter-free environment. The proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel” is visible.Yeah! 🙌 I love Christmas decorations and crafts and enjoy making them. Table centerpieces are a favourite decor item. Centerpieces are important for any occasion. They help set your scene and provide a festive atmosphere and alluring ambiance. Even a small amount of florals, pinecones, greenery add elegance and transform your table into a visually-appealing and colourful display. 🌺 🌿 🪴 Decorations don’t have to be fancy or expensive. They can be simple, homemade and beautiful no matter what supplies you use, whether you buy or make them. You can also use flowers and/or greenery from your outdoor trees or shrubs if you have. With lots of greenery on our property @ritamargaritagarmer we have a variety to use. The added aroma heightens your senses. Happy Friday friends! We made it! Are you thankful it’s Friday?! Black Friday! Friday facts - “Tea-torial” Here’s a few fun facts and #teatips for you. Did you know? Tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world, next to H2O. Okay, coffee lovers, I can hear you groaning over your cuppa joe. 🤦♀️ I love me a seriously good strong, hot cuppa coffee too! Tea has been around since the 3rd Century. Coffee, the dark, aromatic elixir, has been around since the 15th Century. See post of January 7th. Black, Green and White Teas are all made the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. Herbal teas do not contain leaves from the Camellia Sinensis plant. They are a combination of varieties of flowers, herbs, seeds and spices. Herbal teas are by nature caffeine free. Black Tea - supports your immune system, strengthens your bones, and increases your energy. Green Tea - fights heart disease, improves blood flow and stabilizes blood sugar. White Tea - boosts your immune system, is high in antioxidants and removes plaque from your teeth. So there you have it, several good reasons to drink tea! And... Eating chocolate may lower your risk of cardiovascular problems, prevent cognitive decline and lower your cholesterol levels. The Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition suggests that a little dark chocolate may boost oxygen availability during fitness training. So drink tea, eat chocolate and celebrate the special moments! 😃 Whether you choose to drink herbal or caffeinated tea, they all pair well with chocolates, biscuits, cookies. See post of November 16th. Choose the absolute finest of chocolates, tea, biscuits, and cookies to indulge in when you take tea or have a coffee break. Did you know? 🤔 Tea will last a reasonably lengthy amount of time, if you store it properly? Black Tea, because it is fully fermented, can last approximately 2 - 3 years. Some teas, such as white teas, are best used within a 6 month time period. The longest shelf life, over 10 years, are fermented teas. Teas do age, and the flavour and aroma can fade, so the proper storage of them is important. Loose leaf teas have longer expirations dates than tea bags. Typically, sealed packages of tea can last from 1 - 3 years. Store your teas away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Avoid storing in a basement or cellar. You can store tea in the fridge or at room temperature. If you decide to store your tea in the fridge, ensure they are in vacuum-sealed packaging. Ideally, store in a dry, dark space where the temperature is consistent and not near other odours. Always ensure the pouches or packages are sealed. Refrain from opening frequently. Use a dry spoon to scoop your tea leaves. Tea easily and quickly absorbs other odors which will spoil the quality and taste. Whichever tea vessel you choose for storage, ensure it is opaque, and not transparent. The tea can lose its flavour, become discoloured and taste bitter. If you store your tea leaves in the fridge or freezer, which is okay, vacuum sealing it will remove the oxygen, which prevents moisture build-up. You want to store your precious, costly loose-leaf teas properly. An airtight container, preserves flavour. Just as your coffee beans and spices can lose their delicate flavours and aromas, so can your tea leaves or tea bags. How do you store your teas? Do you prefer stainless steel, mason jars, or opaque tins? Share your comments and suggestions below! Since we can’t be together right now, 😞 why not consider purchasing a #teabox or more, to send to and/or share with your friends virtually? Tea and Chocolate pairing provides you with feelings of warmth, a boost to your daily intake of antioxidants, flavonoids and a jolt of java. Pairing tea with chocolate offers a unique way to experience enjoyment that engages all your senses. Consider the stimulating aromas, textures, flavours and depth as your palate takes pleasure. You will begin to discern what your favourite flavours are and how they tantalize your taste buds. Tea, being naturally astringent, evokes the energetic element of tea and chocolate. The combination of exceptionally high quality tea and superior chocolate, equals sheer pleasure. Choose the absolute finest of both; chocolate and tea, when you discover a pairing that you love. Considering you probably won’t drink or eat copious amounts of tea and chocolate, or maybe you will 😉; the expense is justifiable. When you pair extraordinary quality ingredients, less is clearly more. Your palate is worthy of the best! Indulge in and experience tantalizing tastes and perfect pairings with tea and chocolate! Milk chocolate and milk chocolate almond bark pair well with Dragonwell, Oolong, Darjeeling, Sencha and Sweet Chai. Dark chocolate and dark chocolate almond bark pair well with Assam, Darjeeling, Earl Grey or Oolong. You can also try a citrus-y type of chocolate with a honey-sweetened Oolong, a spicy Black Tea with milk chocolate, or a Green Tea with nut-filled chocolate. Would you like to savour something ”chocolate-tea?” Do you enjoy chocolate and tea together? What varieties of tea and chocolate will you indulge in this week? They taste like Earl Grey tea. Scone; a humble biscuit, a simple pleasure to enjoy with tea, or anytime. Some people prefer not to bake scones because they feel they need to be eaten only when they are fresh. The best part though, imho; always make a full recipe because, once they’re baked, extra scones (is there such a thing? lol) can be popped into a plastic freezer bag and frozen. Next time you don’t have any bread #athome take a scone out of your freezer and reheat for 1 minute in the microwave; delicious! This recipe is easy to make and has only 8 ingredients: Earl Grey Honey Scones with Honey Glaze Condiments
1 cup buttermilk + 1 tablespoon 3 tablespoons honey 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, very cold GLAZE: 2 to 3 tablespoons earl grey, 1 tea bag + 1/3 cup boiling water 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted DIRECTIONS: In a measuring cup, measure out the buttermilk and whisk in the honey. Set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Using a grater, grate the butter or cut butter into small chunks, over the flour mixture and transfer to the freezer to chill for 5 minutes. Remove from the freezer and toss the butter with the flour until it’s evenly coated. The key is for the butter and flour mixture to be chilled. Mix the butter throughout the flour, pressing the butter into the flour using your fingers. Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the buttermilk mixture. Using buttermilk adds a slight sour tang to the scones, which some people like. Mix until it comes together. Place dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead gently until it forms (about 3 to 4 times). Kneading the dough too much will make your scones tough and they won’t rise. Press into a circle that is about 1-inch thick. Cut down the middle of the circle and then across, creating 4 big scones. Cut those 4 big scones in half, which makes 8 scones. Transfer them to your prepared sheet pan. Transfer to the freezer to chill for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Brush the scones with buttermilk and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the tops are light to medium golden brown and the scones have risen. Remove and allow to cool, if you prefer. When I host afternoon tea, (rather when I will again in the future), I prefer to serve and savour scones warm. TO MAKE THE GLAZE: In a measuring cup, measure 1/3 cup boiling water. Add the tea bag and allow to steep for about 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the tea bag and discard. Whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of earl grey tea together. Whisk until smooth, thick and barely pourable. If it’s too thick, add a teaspoon of liquid and if it’s too thin, add a few tablespoons of powdered sugar. Only a little bit, otherwise it will affect the taste. You want the scones to have a soft and fluffy texture. Pour the glaze over the scones and serve. For best flavour, serve warm. If you make plain scones without a flavour or glaze, you can enjoy with jams, preserves, lemon curd and clotted cream that you set on your table in small serving bowls. For an added touch and atmosphere, decorate your table with flowers, nice dishes and pretty napkins. NOTES: If you want to make the scones in advance, that's easy-peasy! Prepare them, form and cut the scones. Place them on a baking sheet and transfer to the freezer to flash freeze. Chill for 1 hour. Then place them in a plastic freezer bag or container. Bake them from frozen for an additional 1 or 2 minutes. Enjoy! “A good laugh is sunshine in the house.” - William Makepeace Thackeray (1811 - 1863) English (Calcutta-born) novelist, author and illustrator.
“I never would have made it if I could not have laughed. It lifted me momentarily out of this horrible situation, just enough to make it livable.” - Viktor Frankl (1905 - 1997) Austrian psychologist and neurologist, founder of logotherapy and Holocaust survivor. Happy Fri-yay friends!! We made it through another week? or was that another month?? The sun is shining - oh happy day! 😃 Truth is...There’s not been much to laugh about around here recently. It’s a tough slog with unfortunate things happening simultaneously. 😔 😠 Things are happening slower than planned and hoped for, (in life, in business...add a major reno to all of the above and yeah...ykwim) as some things are beyond our control. “Time flies” right?! ✈️ ⏰ Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. 😞 Gotta keep focused 👀 on who and what matters and brings us joy! ❤️ Baby steps over here. One step at a time. One day at a time. 🙏 We are all at varying levels of sadness, concern and uncertainty from day to day and even from moment to moment, especially now. The ability to laugh helps us not to take ourselves as seriously and keep things in a healthy perspective. Sharing humour and encouragement are beautiful things to share with each other. Let’s do that. 💞 #icymi - scroll down and read April 7th post ...it’s all about the healthy benefits of laughter. 😊 What do you do when “life or s!*t happens” and it’s tough? 💩 Tell us your ideas, 💡 & tips in the comments with us cuz we all know the struggle is real!
