Welcome to the Blog
Fri-Yay! 😃 You need to celebrate...1 cuz it’s Friday! 2 cuz it's National Cheesecake Day! Did you know? The history of cheesecake goes back centuries! The writer Athenaeus is credited for writing the first Greek cheesecake recipe way back in 230 A.D. You may think it originated in America, since “New York Cheesecake” is a popular type of cheesecake. By this time, the Greeks had been serving cheesecake for over 2,000 years but this is the oldest known surviving Greek recipe! “The ancient Greeks, by the 5th century BC, made the earliest known rudimentary cheesecakes (plakous meaning “flat mass”), consisting of patties of fresh cheese pounded smooth with flour and honey and cooked on an earthenware griddle. In late medieval Europe, cheesecake re-emerged in tart form with a pastry base. The 1st English cookbook, The Forme of Cury (c. 1390), consisting of a collection of medieval English recipes compiled by the cooks of King Richard II, included 2 cheese tarts: “Sambocade,” containing curd cheese, egg whites, rosewater, and elder flowers, and “Tart de Bry” made with ruayn (a semi-soft autumn cows’ cheese), egg yolks, and ground ginger. For the ensuing 5 centuries, almost every subsequent English cookbook contained at least 1 cheesecake recipe.” - Excerpt - “The History of Cheesecake” #linkinbio Styles of Cheesecakes: New York-style cheesecake Pennsylvania Dutch-style cheesecake Philadelphia-style Farmer cheese cheesecake Country-style cheesecake Lactose-free cheesecake Cheesecake Kludys Chicago Style cheesecake Savory cheesecake My late Mom used to bake the German variety of cheesecake with real quark.
