You know, don't you; these cookies both taste delicious!! 🤤 😋 Do you sometimes mix up the two? The spelling? (not to be confused with the revered dance tradition of the 90’s, the Macarena! 😂 The word macaron (pronounced mak-a-ROHN is an Italian derivative “maccerone” which means “fine paste.” the word macaroni, the italian pasta comes from the same root word. The macaroon, pronounced mack-a-ROON, with two “o’s” is an American word. The macaron & macaroon are not the same; they are two different types of confections, sharing a European lineage. Stories of the origins of the macaroon abound. The most popular is that the macaroon is a variation of the French macaron adopted by the American population. When preparing these delectable treats, the macaron is difficult, time-consuming & requires great patience, skill & a lot of practice. The macaroon however, can be whisked together in a few minutes, taking only about 15 minutes to make. #clickonlinkinbio for the recipe. 📱 A macaron’s base is meringue & a macaroon’s base is coconut. The macaron is made up of almond flour, egg whites & sugar. The macaroon is made up of grated coconut, egg whites & powdered sugar. The macaron has a delicate crust, like an eggshell, with the inner texture being meringue. The macaroon texture is dense, lumpy & has a chewy, homebaked feel because of the shredded coconut. This creates that signature texture & taste which makes this cookie extremely sweet. The macaron is filled with fruit jams, buttercream or ganache & it’s not overly sweet. The macaron comes in a wide variety of flavours & colours.
