Monday Morning Moroccan Mint

Happy Monday friends!

Have you heard of Gunpowder Green Tea?  Why is a type of Green Tea called “Gunpowder” you may ask?

Gunpowder Tea is a famous non-fermented traditional Chinese green tea. It’s a black color roasted and rolled green tea which looks like gunpowder. Gunpowder tea is mostly produced in Fuding, Fujian province of China. (established during the Qing Dynasty in 1739 AD) It is also grown in Sri Lanka and Taiwan. The tea leaves are rolled for drying purposes and to keep the aroma fresh for the drinker of this tea. These pearls of tea are full of taste and fragrance and that’s why this is sometimes called “green pearl”.

It gets its name since the tea leaves are rolled up into tiny balls, looking similar to gunpowder and the caffeine content is higher than other green teas, because of the tightly rolled up leaves.

Green tea is a natural stimulant, can boost your productivity, revs up your metabolism, balances the ratio of good and bad cholesterol, helps fight heart disease, lowers your risk of Type 2 diabetes, keeps your bones strong, improves blood flow, stabilized blood sugar, keeps you looking youthful, prolongs life and may help you “chill out” as the amino acid L-theanine, acts as a neurotransmitter in your brain. According to several studies, L-theanine appears to increase alpha-wave generation in your brain, which signals a state of relaxation.

Here’s a recipe for you:

2 tbsp. Gunpowder green tea
1 kettle hot water
½ c. fresh spearmint leaves

  1. Place your gunpowder green tea into your teapot with a strainer. Pour enough hot water over your tea leaves to cover. Leave it set for a moment to rinse and allow the tea leaves to open. Discard this tea water. Repeat the process again.
  2. Place the slightly torn spearmint leaves in your teapot on top of the rinsed gunpowder green tea. Pour your hot water over the tea and steep for 2.5 minutes and pour to serving cups. (if you prefer your tea to taste sweet, then you add your sugar at this point, pouring high from one teapot to another - about 5 times to mix well)
  3. Garnish with additional mint leaves, if desired.
  4. Enjoy!

You can make your Gunpowder Tea Chinese Style or brew Western Style. See #linkinbio

When you choose to brew your tea the traditional way, your tea will have the optimum flavour.  The method takes longer and is more complex than the Western Style, although the “Chinese Style” method is matchless. More info in the #bio

The taste of Gunpowder tea is thick and mellow like pure honey. The golden liquor refreshes you as you taste it. So get a sip of best quality Gunpowder tea and be fresh.

So there you have it!  You want to be healthy, have strong bones and a strong heart, be productive, yet feel relaxed and of course, you want to look youthful! :-)

Enjoy!
