Did you know? Tea is a natural and tasty choice for a variety of health benefits.
Sage tea is an aromatic infusion made from the leaves of Salvia Officinalis, an herb in the same family as mint. A few of the benefits are: happiness, relaxation, cognition & mental performance, and healthy heart. Sage wish is commonly used as a spice is also long known for its use in traditional and alternative medicine. In particular, it is known for potential health benefits, though some scientific research is in preliminary stages. Commonly used as a spice, Sage also has a long history of use in alternative and traditional medicine. Notably, it’s packed with potential health benefits, although scientific research is still in its preliminary stages. As I read and write, I often choose a tea such as Sage. Whatever you’re doing; ponder/think of the many things that your cuppa Sage will help you focus on. Tea enhances emotional wellness and is an important area of brain health. The polyphenols in green tea aid in releasing dopamine which emits happy feelings in your brain. "Sage is good for the head and brain, it quickeneth the senses and memory." John Gerard (1545–1612) English botanist with a large herbal garden in London. Have you heard of Gunpowder Green Tea? Why is a type of Green Tea called “Gunpowder” you may ask? Gunpowder Tea is a famous non-fermented traditional Chinese green tea. It’s a black color roasted and rolled green tea which looks like gunpowder. Gunpowder tea is mostly produced in Fuding, Fujian province of China. (established during the Qing Dynasty in 1739 AD) It is also grown in Sri Lanka and Taiwan. The tea leaves are rolled for drying purposes and to keep the aroma fresh for the drinker of this tea. These pearls of tea are full of taste and fragrance and that’s why this is sometimes called “green pearl”. It gets its name since the tea leaves are rolled up into tiny balls, looking similar to gunpowder and the caffeine content is higher than other green teas, because of the tightly rolled up leaves. Green tea is a natural stimulant, can boost your productivity, revs up your metabolism, balances the ratio of good and bad cholesterol, helps fight heart disease, lowers your risk of Type 2 diabetes, keeps your bones strong, improves blood flow, stabilized blood sugar, keeps you looking youthful, prolongs life and may help you “chill out” as the amino acid L-theanine, acts as a neurotransmitter in your brain. According to several studies, L-theanine appears to increase alpha-wave generation in your brain, which signals a state of relaxation. Here’s a recipe for you: 2 tbsp. Gunpowder green tea 1 kettle hot water ½ c. fresh spearmint leaves
You can make your Gunpowder Tea Chinese Style or brew Western Style. See #linkinbio When you choose to brew your tea the traditional way, your tea will have the optimum flavour. The method takes longer and is more complex than the Western Style, although the “Chinese Style” method is matchless. More info in the #bio The taste of Gunpowder tea is thick and mellow like pure honey. The golden liquor refreshes you as you taste it. So get a sip of best quality Gunpowder tea and be fresh. So there you have it! You want to be healthy, have strong bones and a strong heart, be productive, yet feel relaxed and of course, you want to look youthful! :-) Enjoy! According to Virginia Satir {(1916 - 1988) influential American author, renowned psychotherapist and honoured with the title “Mother of Family Therapy” for her pioneering work.}: “We need 4 hugs a day for survival. Hugs are akin to laughter and meditation. You encourage understanding and empathy, when you hug; investments in your relationships. Hugging helps us feel connected. We know, especially in this Covid time how much we miss our BFF’s and special peeps. We are living in a time of isolation and some are deprived of touch. The feelings provided from Oxytocin are contentment, pleasure, happiness, and euphoria; good-for- you feelings. Hugs get you out of your circular patterns of thought. Hugs boost your self-esteem and help you connect with your breathing, feelings and your heart. You have the power to improve your health. A little #wednesdaywisdom for you! Know your tea before you pour your tea. Take care and you will delight in the delicate flavours. You’ve spent your hard-earned 💵 and bought high quality teas. You want them to stay and taste fresh. A few helpful tips to keep your tea tasting yummy! 😋 Tea will last a long time if you store it properly. It can be savoured for 6 months to a few years, depending on your choice. Some teas improve with age. Tea flavours change over time and require different storage types. Store your tea in a dark location. Light, especially sunlight, will damage it. When you choose your preferred teabox, tin or canister, ensure it’s opaque. This will keep your teas from losing flavour, become discoloured or tasting bitter. Store your tea in a dry location; this ensures mold doesn't set in. Avoid storing where condensation occurs; your basement or cellar. 🚽 🛁 😂 Funny, not funny! Your kitchen also produces humidity and storing your teas on a raised shelf isn’t good as heat rises. It’s been debated whether to store tea in your fridge or freezer. If you decide to, ensure you vacuum seal it, which removes oxygen and avoids moisture build-up. You want to keep your costly, precious loose leaf teas fresh. Ensure you use an airtight container so your tea flavours are preserved. The flavour will last longer and airflow won’t diminish it. When storing loose leaf teas, consider teabags, coffee beans and spices, as these also lose their delicate aromas and flavours, when exposed to moisture and light. 7 reasons your tea tastes yucky and goes rancid:
#celebratethespecialmoments enjoy your #teatime Tea is calming; the mere process of brewing tea, offers a boost to your mental health. “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy tea and that’s kind of the same thing.” – Author unknown How do you store your teas? What a glorious sunshine-y Monday!
Mondays are usually thought of as the least favourite day of the week. While the majority of people dislike Mondays, this day can really be the preferred day of the week. Today is National Thesaurus Day. - Big deal you say? Did you know? “Research shows that if we start a new project or set a new personal or professional goal on Monday, we are more likely to follow through. According to another study, we are more motivated at the beginning of a period, like the morning, Monday.” Roget’s Thesaurus is known to be one of the most widely used reference books worldwide. It was published in 1852 and the book has never gone out of publication. After his retirement from a successful medical career, (Peter Mark Roget 1779 - 1869) he spent the rest of his life working on “Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases.” Do you know why he made word lists? It’s believed this was a way for him to combat depression and mental illness. Using a Thesaurus is an excellent way to increase your vocabulary and help you to become a better writer. As an avid reader, writer and learner; a Thesaurus is one of my favourite reference books. You can opt for a hard copy, download an app to your device or bookmark a website. You will notice that your writing and vocabulary improves when you regularly refer to a Thesaurus. For you #icy - a few games & word apps available on the App Store:
You will also find games in the Merriam Webster website dropdown menu. Do you read/use a Thesaurus? Or Thesauri? Yes, that is a word. It is the plural form of Thesaurus and is traditionally published in print form and are now more widely available and used online. I believe in and support education/learning/study/literacy/teaching/training/schooling/improvement and knowledge locally, and internationally in Guatemala and Paraguay. Are you enjoying the glorious sunshine? Are you reading/learning today? Did you know? When you read, your brain is full of stimuli? Did you know? Reading reduces stress, improvest your sleep quality, increases your vocabulary and memory and improves your intelligence. Few of us know what exactly is happening in our brains when we are reading. Until recently, finding out in real-time what processes take place in your brain while you read was difficult. Thankfully, due to MRI’s and other techniques, neuroscience now allows you to see your brain activity while you are working on a task. There is a correlation between reading, learning and cognitive performance. Neuroscience has proven that when you read, it causes you to experience more situations and trains the processing of your emotions, making you emotionally smarter. Amazing right? #icymi scroll to Jan 6th post & read: “I am a great lover of words, reading them, learning…” Do you enjoy reading? Do you read for pleasure and/or for learning? I had to focus on the letters, far and near, in numerous positions and varying pieces of optical equipment. I had to focus on lights and different directions. I had to keep my eyes open and concentrate on focal points. At times, the images were clear and at times they were unclear. When the eye doctor placed eye drops in my eyes to enlarge my pupils, I had to keep my eyes closed for 5 minutes for the drops to take effect. Dilating the pupils allows the eye doctor to see clearly as it enlarges and expands the eyes. This brought to mind the analogy of focus, fixation, gaze, vision, clarity, lack of focus and lack of clarity. It became crystal clear to me that keeping our eyes open and focused, helps us move in a successive, forward-facing, direct, unambiguous way. You will “see” (pun intended) in my post of January 4th, the focal point was words. I am a great lover of words, reading them, learning about them and understanding them. Call me a word nerd; a bookworm and you will be 100% correct. Do you know the word drishti? A sanskrit word commonly translated as “view”, “gaze” or “point of focus.” A specific point to lock your eyes or inner vision, which is commonly used whilst praying, meditating, focusing or maintaining a yoga posture. As an active person, committed to fitness and practicing yoga, one becomes aware of and focused on the movements and/or poses one is performing. Did you know? Your attention naturally follows where you direct your eyes and when you gaze, this is reflected in the quality of your mental thoughts. Your ability to focus is a powerful and decisive operator of excellence. Where focus goes, energy flows. “Focus is so important because it is the gateway to all thinking: perception, memory, learning, reasoning, problem solving, and decision making. Without good focus, all aspects of your ability to think will suffer. Without focus, you won’t be as effective in your work because if you’re not concentrating on the right things or are distracted, you won’t be capable of getting your work done. You also won’t be maximally efficient without good focus because, every time your mind wanders away from your work, you are wasting time. Finally, you won’t be as productive as you can because your work output will not be of the highest quality and it will take you longer to do it. Here’s a simple reality: if you can’t focus effectively, you can’t think effectively. And if you can’t think effectively, you definitely can’t produce the quality of work necessary to be successful. From this perspective, it’s not difficult to see why focus is such an essential tool for business success.” - Dr. Jim Taylor - Jim Taylor, Ph.D., Psychology is an internationally recognized authority on the psychology of performance, parenting, technology, and popular culture. Professor, author, speaker and elite athlete. Some synonyms for focus: fixate, direct, focal point, aim at, concentrate, target, spotlight, point of convergence. Noun: a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity. Verb: (with object) to bring to a focus or into focus; cause to converge on a perceived point - to focus the lens of a camera or to focus on the lens of a camera Verb: (used without object), focused or focusing; to be or become focused; my eyes have trouble focusing on distant objects; to direct one's attention or efforts. Here’s a simple reality: if you can’t focus effectively, you can’t think effectively. And if you can’t think effectively, you definitely can’t produce the quality of work necessary to be successful.
